g-Anisotropy of the [S.sub.2]-state manganese cluster in single crystals of cyanobacterial photosystem II studied by W-band electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The multiline signal from the [S.sub.2]-state manganese cluster in the oxygen evolving complex of photosystem II (PSII) is seen in single crystals of a thermophilic cyanobacterium Thermosynechococcus vulcanus for the first time by W-band electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and the spectra is characterized by the g-anisotropy. The analysis has shown that single-crystal experiments are vital to detect the characteristic and well-resolved hyperfine splittings (hfs's) of the [S.sub.2] state at W-band.

Reply to "comment on 'free energy of transfer of a solute and its relation to the partition constant"'
Article Abstract:
The question of what physical effects go into the calculations of free energy transfer is debated. Although the additivity assumption is criticized, it is argued that nonadditivity effects would not be able to explain the observed discrepancies and are unlikely to result in such systematic deviations.

Detailed proton Q-band ENDOR study of the electron spin population distribution in the reduced [4Fe-4S](super 1+) state
Article Abstract:
Proton ENDOR spectroscopy is used in single crystals on the synthetic model compound [N(C2D5)(sub 4)](sub 2)-[Fe4S4(SCH2C6D5)(sub 4)] in order to determine the electron spin population distribution within the [4Fe-4S](super 1+) pragmatic state.
